Making Public Buildings brings together a distinguished list of authors to reflect on Adjaye’s practice, significance and influences. Designed by Adjaye Associates, it includes contributions by Okwui Enwezor and Saskia Sassen, who discuss the increasing need for a politicised definition of public space; Nikolaus Hirsch and Peter Allison, who consider Adjaye's attention to materials; and two interviews with David Adjaye led by Peter Allison and Kodwo Eshun. The publication also features drawings, documents and photographs relating to ten of Adjaye’s most important projects, all published here for the first time - Idea Store, Chrisp Street, London (2004); Nobel Peace Center, Oslo (2005); Idea Store, Whitechapel, London (2005); Venice Biennale Pavillions with TBA-1, Venice (2005); Stephen Lawrence Centre, Deptford, London (2005); Bernie Grant Centre, Tottenham, London (2005); Rivington Place, Shoreditch, London (2005); Market Hall, Wakefield (2005); and Fairfield Housing, Hackney, London (2006).
