Chantal Joffe
Vita (2010)

15 colour screen print on Somerset Satin 300 gsm
50 x 65 cm [19.7 x 25.6 inches]
Edition of 30, signed and numbered verso.

About the work

Chantal Joffe created this exuberant image of a young girl holding a pencil in tribute to the American portrait painter, Alice Neel. Joffe's celebrated figure paintings feature young women whose lithe outlines pulsate within lush, Munch-like interiors and cityscapes. This lyrical portrayal of a child, on the verge of tumbling over, combines pastoral innocence and new life with a hint of mischief.

About the artist

Joffe is represented by Victoria Miro Gallery, London. Her work is part of the following collections; Arts Council England, Saatchi, Tate, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts.

Selected exhibitions

Joffe has exhibited widely in public and private galleries in the USA, Europe and in the UK including The British School at Rome; Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, New York; the Tate Liverpool and ICA London and as part of the John Moores Painting Prize 22 at The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.

Whitechapel Gallery editions are generously donated by the artists. All proceeds from the sale of these works directly support our exhibition and education programmes. As is traditional in editions publishing, prices will rise as an edition starts to sell out.
