Her experimental practice has extended to producing complete living spaces and vehicles through which she examines sustainability, self-sufficiency and the tension between autonomy and isolation. More recently Zittel has investigated the iconic Minimalist sculptures of Donald Judd and Carl Andre, and their capacity to confuse the role of the horizontal surface. She replicates yet modifies their forms using a variety of surface textures, which complicated their meaning and function.

Andrea Zittel lives and works in Joshua Tree, California and is represented by White Cube Gallery.

[[artist end]]

[[exhibitions start]]

Selected Exhibitions

Selected exhibitions include a permanent installation at Denver GSA Federal Center, Denver, CO (2014); Physical Matter Reality, Sadie Coles HQ, London, UK (2013); How To Live?, Massimo de Carlo, Milan, Italy (2012); Fluid Panel State, Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, USA (2012); Travels to:, BALTIC, England and Sprüth Magers, Berlin, Germany (2011); Andrea Zittel presents: Smock Shop, Sprüth Magers, Berlin, Germany, (2009); Critical Spaces, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, TX; Western Evolutions Regen Projects, Los Angeles, CA, (2005); A-Z Time Trials, Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, NY, (2000); New Art 6: Andrea Zittel, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, OH (1997); Andrea Zittel, Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, NY (1995); Comfort, Anthony d’Offay Gallery, London, England (1994); Purity, Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, NY (1993).

[[exhibitions end]]

Whitechapel Gallery editions are generously donated by the artists.
