About the work

The Limited Edition Dopo Tutto (After All) was created by Giulio Paolini exclusively for the Whitechapel Gallery and accompanies his first major UK solo show since 1980. Paolini is one of the leading figures of conceptual art and his exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery: To Be or Not to Be (9 July - 14 September 2014) continues his exploration of the relationship between artist and artwork - a recurring and prominent theme in his work.

About the artist

Paolini's belief that a work of art is not just reflective of the 'here and now' but is also resonant of earlier traditions, has led him to investigate art's relation to the past, creating intriguing installations deeply rooted in art history from the Renaissance to today - from plaster casts of classical sculptures shattered on the ground, to photographs of iconic paintings by Northern Italian Renaissance painter, Lorenzo Lotto, or inquiries into the construction of the image.

Paolini is represented by The Lisson Gallery, UK; Annemarie Verna, Zurich; Yvon Lambert, Paris; Marian Goodman, New York and Studio La Citta, Verona. He currently lives and works in Turin, Italy.

Selected exhibitions

Paolini was nominated as Chevalier des Arts et des lettres in 1995 and then Officer in 2002. Paolini's work was included in past editions of dOCUMENTA, Kassel, in 1972, 1977,1982 and 1992. In 2004 Paolini together with his wife, Anna, and his closest collaborators, founded the Giulio and Anna Foundation.

Whitechapel Gallery editions are generously donated by the artists. All proceeds from the sale of these works directly support our exhibition and education programmes. As is traditional in editions publishing, prices will rise as an edition starts to sell out.
