About the work

The title, Homo Bulla translates from Latin to mean 'man is a bubble' - bubbles having been used art historically, as symbols of the transience of material things, including human existence, thought and ideas. Contained inside each bubble are lines from the song 'I'm forever Blowing Bubbles' a popular football anthem today, but believed to have originated from the First World War in reference to the bubbles in gas masks employed by trench-bound soldiers.

About the artist

From re-creating east-end market-stalls in a gallery context, to painstakingly etched portraits and horticultural drawings, Michael Landy's work ruminates on consumerism and ownership and unflinchingly observes life with a distinctive and spartan honesty. One of Landy's best-known projects is Breakdown, 2001, in which all his worldly possessions were methodically listed by inventory in a disused London shop, before being fed by conveyor belt into a large grinder and reduced to dust.

Selected exhibitions

Landy was included in Sensation at the Royal Academy, 1997 and has shown at Tate London, Chisenhale Gallery, Maureen Paley, South London Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, Arnolfini Bristol and Kettles Yard Cambridge. Internationally he has exhibited at Vancouver Art Gallery, Palais de Tokyo Paris, Museum of Modern Art, New York and Sabine Knust, Cologne. Landy has works in many private collections, including the Walker Art Center, Zabludowicz Collection, Government Art Collection, British Council and the Tate Collection

As is traditional in editions publishing, prices will rise as an edition starts to sell out. The price shown includes VAT for EU customers and is zero-rated for customers from outside the EU.
