About the artist

Stuart Carey (b. 1987, Newcastle Upon Tyne) studied an MA at the Royal College of Art. He has since established an international reputation in challenging perceptions of contemporary ceramics, having been awarded numerous accolades including Homes and Gardens Designer Award for ‘Use of Materials’ and The ELLE Decoration British Design Award for ‘Best Craft Maker’. He has enjoyed highprofile collaborations and commissions with visual artists such as Howard Hodgkin and brands like Calvin Klein. In 2014 Carey founded The Kiln Rooms, an open access studio in Peckham, with the principle of making ceramics accessible to everyone. For more information, visit www.thekilnrooms.com

In 2013 the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh, organized No Foreign Lands, a critically lauded exhibition focused on recurrent motifs in Doig's paintings; the exhibition later travelled to Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montreal. Recently, an exhibition devoted to the artist's paintings and prints was on view at Louisiana Museum in Humlebæk, Denmark, after originating at Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland in 2014. Doig served as a Trustee of the Tate from 1995 to 2000, and in 2008 was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize of the Society for Modern Art, Museum Ludwig, Cologne.
